I agree with Robertico's suggestion.
The MAC address will not pass through Router in internet.
In Web application, we use username/password to do authentication. And we
use cookie to save the effort to retype the information, but all this is
user specific, but not machine specific.

Also we can use a script to retrieve the MAC address and send to the web
server for identity via HTTP. But any machine if sent the same information
will pass the procedure.
