Actually I just noticed that the bRet is set to value 13 not 0 or 1.
this corresponds to ERROR_INVALID_DATA in WinError.h. I wonder why this
is happening. If I run this from a windows explorer folder's shell it
works fine. But if run this from the desktop it fails only for ppt and
txt files. It works fine for doc and xls files

There is also an issue with Outlook if you used this as your email interface, Microsoft have no known fix as yet for these upgrade issues my only fix was to rebuild my PC luckily I made a ghost image, you might try system restore after uninstalling 2007 Office ... The only way I can open .ppt ... and changing the pointer under "Excel.Sheet.12" to point to Excel ... that all .xls files on my computer open with Excel 2007. ...
