I don't see this as a VB question and I think trying to write a VB-app
solution to it is...well...ridiculous. But that's just my opinion. I'm not
trying to discourage you if you really want to write such an app. But I
would like you to consider some things:
It's possibly a setting of or problem with Windows. I don't have Windows XP,
but maybe it's a bug in WinXP? I can see it even being due to a problem
with your sound card's drivers and/or utility programs (lots of sound card
software "plays around" with this). I certainly wouldn't rule that out, and
that's the first thing I'd look in to. I'd contact the manfacturer of my
sound device. If it's integrated, then you should probably first contact
the manufacturer of your motherboard, who will probably refer you (one way
or another) to the manufacturer of the "sound chip" on the MB. Check their
web sites. It might very well be a known issue.
The second thing I'd do is contact MS. Search their web sites, knowledge
bases, technical support forums, etc. MS might have the issue documented
somewhere (most likely a KB article) even if the issue is really not with
Windows.
You shouldn't have to write your own program to work around this issue, and
(IMO) it's best to find out what's wrong rather than write a VB app to work
around it.
