It certainly does have a cost--only that the cost has been transferred
from its direct cost to a collective hidden one. There's nothing "free"
about it...costs are as inevitable as death; there's effort involved
which fundamentally translates to an expenditure of energy which is
controlled by the second law. Costs are therefore, merely a
manifestation of thermodynamics when the entire system is analyzed
instead of merely a small portion of it.

So, "free" information is a always connected to cost?
And cost is needed ... then the nature? the sea? the sun? The time
you took to answer ;) Do they obey thermodynamics?
Now lets get this into its original question, "Is there anything I can
do in VB to stop people from running/operating my
program via a remote connection?" they bought the product, and now
they cant use it using VDI (well not all my development iron is
virtual, but why not?)
or remote in from home; Remoting the office I end up in a citrix
environment and can remote my office computer from there... Do we have
to obey licensing rules in that way that remote support, remote
(distance) work is hindered? Why not ban telephones too then?
For the more interesting reply to my thoughts, thanks for the
http://www.thevenusproject.com/a-new-social-design/resource-based-economy
link. Think they tried something like that in Holland but got problems
with the tax man ;) (The idea was to do something for eachother and
get paid in the same way... A collective/Kibbutz, but in a otherways
normal village.)
