My biggest problem is that *ANY* mention of .Net in this group turns into
a
flame war. If someone is open to "upgrading" to vb.Net or is unsure
which
way to go and it is suggested that VB.Net may be a viable option, all
hell
breaks loose. If someone asks if VB or Delphi and someone suggests that
Delphi or Real Basic might be a good option, then all is right in the
world,
no arguments or flame wars. Why is that the case? VB6 and VB.Net are
two
very complementary products ant work well alone or together and both
offer
the same friendly syntax we all use and love.

I think it's possible to have someone suggest VB.Net and not to start the
usual name calling, ranting and raving that always follows. Don't you?
I
also think that a simple redirect is appropriate where the post has
obviously been misdirected.

BTW, your English is very good :)

I'm as sick of the bickering as anyone else. However, it should be pointed
out that if someone came here asking Delphi or RealBasic questions (which
are obviously OT in a VB newsgroup) and other posters insisted on clogging
the group with answers to those questions rather than simply redirecting
the
OP to an appropriate group, they would get flamed too and rightly so.

It isn't so much a hatred for .NET as it is simply a rising level of
irritation at those who can't (or won't) keep the posts in this newsgroup
on-topic. Delphi, RealBasic, .NET, and any other programming language
other
than Visual Basic 6 or earlier are *all* OT here and common courtesy would
dictate that a simple redirect to OT posters should suffice.

The point is that people have asked questions about alternatives to VB6 or
which one to choose and it never turned ugly unless there's any mention on
..Net. I'm sure you know that. I wasn't referring to language specific
questions and I stated that VB.Net questions should be handled with a simple
redirect. I did say that, didn't I. But, what always happens is that one
or more members reply with nonsense about VB.Net, an incorrect rant about
versions or some other nonsense. This really should stop.

However, if someone wants an opinion as to whether to stay with VB6 or go to
VB.Net, then I don't see the harm in discussing the subject like adults.
