Hi RB,
I looked at Basic4ppc, and it seems to dumb things down too much, IMO. The lack of strong typing isn't a good thing when developing for Windows Mobile especially as they are using the .NET compact framework. I was also amazed to see they list ArrayList as a "Control". Still it is only £50.
I think the best thing is to download the trials. I'd install them on Virtual PC's if you have sufficient ram. That way you don't have to worry about uninstalling them once the trial period expires for the one you decide not to use.

OK, that looks an option then.
Other than for the PPC I don't have a need to code in .net, so it will come down
to the better IDE (I am sure the VS one is a lot better) versus the simplicity (and ease of use)
of Basic4ppc. B4p has limitations, eg you can't declare strongly typed local variables, they
are all variants and arrays can only be declared globally.
Has anybody on this forum used the both and willing to comment on the merits of both?
Again, I am not interested in coding in .net other than for the PPC. I suppose the only way to find
out is to try the both.

Visual Studio 2008 Standard is about £200 as an upgrade, £300 as a full license. Funny thing is the Free express editions qualify for upgrade licensing, so download the express edition and buy the upgrade. With Visual Studio you obviously get a lot more than just Windows Mobile development, including the ability to use many 3rd party tools.
You can also download the 3 month free trial of Visual Studio Professional, try it out and decide that way.

In that case I would stick with this Basic4PPC, which is not bad and costs some £30.
