Notebookshop.com has Fujitsu laptops.
Look for Jeff specials (radio computer talk show out of LA).
I bought one A6025 and got both XP Pro and Vista Home Prem(XP installed).
It is faster than my desktop and boots to the desktop faster than anything I
have seen.
There are still nice systems around with XP Pro.
I am a user and have no relationship with notebookshop or Fujitsu.
Anyway, my quad 4G 1TByte Vista Ultimate has been declawed (Aero off, UAC
off, full admin)and so far I have had 0 problems with VB6 development. Take
stuff back and forth from Vista to XP.
But next I need to try development for a "user' with UAC on. A different
animal so I am told. The fun begins ...

lowcost_PCs_1.html
MS has extended XP for two years on low cost PCs.
Unfortunately, these PCs seem to be virtually useless:

cs-only-300
The CPU and RAM are fine, but there's no IDE support,
no CD/DVD/floppy, and no space. (Which is weird. Why does
a desktop need to be small?)
For another $150 one could have a real Desktop,
with bays, IDE support, CD/DVD drive, etc. To bring an Eee
up to that level would probably cost more. Maybe the lowcost
PCs are aimed at corporate workstation usage? Or maybe
MS is just trying to find a way to save face in going along
with a general rejection of Vista? ...In which case a two
year general XP extension might be announced soon?
For now it looks like lowcost desktops will probably go the
way of WebPCs. They just cost too much for what you get.
But it will be interesting to see how the lowcost desktop trend
pans out. If someone makes a sensible, lowcost, utility desktop
with XP it might sell well and nudge Vista into a sub-category
of "media PC". Certainly there are very few people, other than
gamers, who actually need something faster than the 1.6 Ghz
CPU that the Eee offers.
My wife bought one of those for a client on Saturday. I got to play
with it for a bit and I have to say that they're really cool. It runs
Xandros which is a leaner meaner Ubuntu and makes an absolutely
wonderful Internet appliance. She bought if for a guy who does product
reviews. All he needs is Internet (it had both wired and wireless) and
OpenOffice. You wouldn't use this a development box but it would be
perfect as a satellite workstation. Great keyboard although a little
small for my tastes. But for someone on the go who just really needs to
compose a few documents, surf the web and check email, it's ideal.
