VB or?

I did some VB programming about 12 years ago, got as far as VB 4.0. I'm now tinkering
again with VB and having problems opening an Access database. I've tried several suggestions
offered by various people, but nothing helps so far. I have built a web page to describe my
efforts... http://www.pearnet.com/dbhelp.
I know this is the General Discussion section so I'm not really asking for help in that particular
area... but if you do have something to offer, I'd be happy. My real purpose in this news group
is to ask about VB. Is VB still alive, or has it been replaced by something else? I'm using
Windows XP Pro and Access 97 for the database. I'd hate to upgrade to a later version only
to find out that it too would not work properly in my environment.
I've toyed with the idea of doing a re-install of VB 4, but can't even find all the floppies. I think
there were about 16 of them. Wonder if VB 4 might be available out there somewhere?
I'm not looking for anything too sophisticated or complex or expensive. I'm basically tinkering
now with this programming stuff as a hobby.
Thanks for all tips.
Earl
