Re: Where did it go and how do I get it back

After doing the reset I tried to exit and got a cascade of error
messages. Error 424
Object Required.
And when i went back into the IDE the menus were not quite right.
I did reset again and exited again with errors.
IDE seems to work otherwise.
Still missing UserControl on menu.
When I came back in after the reset, Options was missing.
Retrurned after Reset.
I am afraid that if I unistall VB it will not clear registry entries
and get a clean reinstall.
Suggestions?
Frist, try to be sure it's ONLY VB with this problem. It really sounds
more system oriented. Check the right-click menues in your other
applications to see if there are problems there, too. e.g. Browser,
e-mail, Word, OO, PSP, whatever other favorite applications you use a
lot and have good right-click menues.
If anything else is messed up too, then it's definitley unlikely to
be a VB issue but rather a system files issue.
Assuming it's only showing up in VB:
Reinstalling VB is most likely the right next step. It's true not ALL
registry entries will be removed by the uninstall, since several are
created post-install, but the ones that matter to the program operation
will. And if I'm wrong and there are one or two program entries that
don't get removed, they will at least get re/over written when you
reinstall.
=Uninstall VB
=Shut Down computer; turn OFF POWER to it for at least 60 seconds to
allow all memory images to dissipate. You have to actually take power
off the box; not just turn the computer power switch to off. Unplug it
from the wall of if it's on a power strip, turn it off there AFTER using
the computer power switch to turn it off. "Off" isn't really "off"
while power is applied in most systems.
=Start the computer.
Be sure it's working properly. Check a bunch of your favorite apps to
see that things are working.
=Restart the computer.
=Before doing anything else, when it finishes the boot processes and is
ready to respond normally, re-install VB. Don't forget VBScroll,
MZTools, Add-ins, whatever else little "helpers" you might have along
with it. Reinstall those too.
=Now try VB. I don't know about the right click being fixed; I don't
have such menu items, so I suspect they are something 3rd party you
might have installed separately from VB or an Add-in.
=I won't think less of you if this is too much to "bother" doing, but I
do think it's the best next step based on the erros and tribulations you
described. Something, somehow sounds like it is causing file corruption
and it may or may not be VB.
Should the problem return after a short period of time, or especially
if other applications begin having problems, then I'd more suspect
malware of some sort and would go after it from that angle. Run updated
antivirus scans and then all the spyware tools you have, hopefully at
least three different ones. Be certain EVERY one of those, including
the AV, has been updated. I check updates everytime before I run them,
except for AV which is automatically updated.
=If you find no virus, trojan, worm, etc., and the VB reinstall didn't
work out, then I'd say you should discuss it further here. It might
turn into a situation where a different newsgroup would be a lot more
relevant to your questions; mainly one of the MS newsgroups and/or one
of the several excellent sites around for such purposes.
=If/when you do respond, include a description of your system. Here's a
link with good suggestions, especially if you go to an MS group:

That fixed the View menu but did nothing for the Project right click

Thanks at least for that.

VB6SP6+
On one PC in the Project Right Click Menu I have Add UserControl,
Add File,
More ActiveX Designers
On another PC with the same VB6SP6+ it is all missing.
How do I get it back? What did I do to remove them?
Ditto for View Menu; I have Watch Window but no Immediate Window
or Locals Window.
If VB6 decaying before my eyes. Send more $ to M$.
I find I can drag a control into the project pane, but now i want
to rcreate
a new UserControl.
Right click a toolbar and choose customize. Click Menu bar and
choose reset.
See if that helps
