The Trollies, as we like to call them, are awarded each year to the best of the best among the newsgroups trolls. The prize is a finely crafted model Trolley Car, suitable for mantle piece display. Here are this year's nominees:
Best New Troll Award: Bill McCarthy
Thanks ! I'd like to thank all those who have made this possible, from the paranoid anti-MS ranters (you know who you are), to the anti-dotnet flamers: I certainly could not have done it without you guys. :)
Keep those rants coming !! :)
Bursting onto the scene during 2008, Bill has firmly established himself as a major player. He combines credentials that include published articles, web blogs, and apparent experience in actual development work, with a dogged determination to be taken seriously as a troll. Once he has "Bwahaha"ed you, he won't let go, and you will get an endless litany of pointless claims, denials of truth, and ad-hominem attacks - the full arsenal unleashed.
Best Undercover Troll Award: Mike Williams
Who knew? For years, Mike has carefully laid the groundwork. He posted code; he helped people unravel the mysteries of printing and graphic APIs; he posted timing results, for goodness sake. No empty claims at all. But this year, Bill McCarthy has outed him. It turns out he is a troll after all, since he doesn't like the price of Vista on Amazon.uk. Sneaky guy, that Mike, posing as a knowledgable and helpful poster all these years.
Troll of the Year Award: Michael C
Michael C is a classic. Occasionally he will post a one line response to a programming question, usually of the not so helpful "that won't work" variety, but he doesn't waste a lot of time on useful replies. He starts with a simple question, repeating it in new threads as often as needed. If anyone replies seriously, he dismisses the reply and diverts attention elsewhere. If anyone replies humorously, he complains that his question is being ducked. If neither of those apply, he claims he has been misquoted, starting a long debate about what he actually said in the first place. Works every time.
Stayed tuned, the awards ceremony will be coming up shortly. Meanwhile, keep replying to their posts - someone has to, since I don't read them. Maybe you can change their minds; and if not, we wouldn't want to handicap them in their quest for a Trolley Car award.
