The answer is really no .NET program can do more or less than
another .NET program. It all gets translated down to IL which can be
retranslated back into another .NET language. The differences in .NET
languages are found in how many lines of code it takes for them to do
a job and how they deal with the environment outside of .NET.
I never claimed any different.
Well, to the true dotNet geek there is a difference even at the IL level -
which can be easily caught by doing the conversions Mr. Conley mentioned.
But all of that irrelevant in comparison to the fact that both languages are
relatively new and there is a vast difference in the quality and experience
of dotNet programmers. An experienced VB.Net programmer is levels of
magnitude beyond the C# newbie, and vice versa, regardless of the tools at
hand.
It is pretty funny to sit in on a brown bag seminar and listen to the
arguments and then go view the hideous gallimaufry that most shops are
producing. <g>
Pick a language and learn it. Abuse it. Get burnt. Experience a few
epiphanies. Do something really stupid. Be brillant. Be dull. ...
Either VB.Net or C# will serve you well.
