Oh please, there is little real difference between VB.NET and C#.
The difference is not a technical one. The difference is that MS uses C++ and was very careful to preserve as much as possible of that as they could moving forward. It's also conceivable that they will use C# for some things which gives C# a grasp on the possibility of long-term support. MS has demonstrated zero regard for VB and anybody thinking they'll show more for VB.Net is delusional.
If you are used to working with VB6 and want to work with .NET then use
VB.NET.
Especially if you like having the language vendor dictate when you rewrite your applications.

Again the problem of .NET these days is solely with the lack of
backwards compatibility not due to any technical issues.
I'd say "primarily" rather than "solely" but that's splitting hairs.
