Re: How's dot.net doing nowadays?

if we could switch it all .NET overnight.

You understand, don't you, that *this* problem is the GrandDaddy of them all? That
if *only* Microsoft had provided a transition path for existing code assets, .NET
would've been totally ubiquitous years ago. Absolutely, totally. The *only* reason
..NET isn't everywhere and used for everything now, is because they didn't offer any
way to (re)use existing code.

For the last 5 years, I've been
mumbling to any one that will hear "If only this were in .NET then we
could..." but that's my rock to push up the hill.

Know much about Lewis and Clark? How they expected a short portage over what we now
call The Rockies? You're facing the first of the Great Falls of the Missouri and
winter's on its way! Your only hope is to find a Shoshone guide who can get you and
your gear across before you die. Whining to the Souix or Blackfeet isn't gonna get
you anywhere. (Clue: Your Shoshone is in Redmond, and the only viable pathway
consists of a truly functional migration path for ClassicVB code into the new
frontier.)
