Actually, I've been known to use "prolly" from time to time, though usually only in chat, where I type things closer to how I'd say them (which is often "probly" if I'm speaking off-the-cuff, but since "prolly" seems to be the more common usage, I use that instead).

But hey, be thankful - we COULD all be using 1337 (that's "leet", if you don't already know and dread those numbers). ;)

You're right that there are a lot of acronyms and abbreviations that are common in newsgroups. OTOH <g>, using "u" for "you" or "prolly" for "probably" just screams ignorant fool.
