Re: Is developing in VB6 still viable?

The tiniest peanut in the farthest row back stood and
shouted softly:

Beastfish said it best, IMO.

The correct anwer appears to be: "Maybe. No.
Mostly". You can see the ends, but who knows what's
behind the barn?

MS should repackage VB6, complete with color changes on
the CD but no code changes, and call it Visually BASIC
Basic 1. I bet they'd make millions and it'd be SO
easy to hype! I can see the ads now.
Or, maybe some enterprising soul could rewrite the
VB6 programs in ... wait for it ... VB6! He'd get
rich. I wouldn't recommend Open Sourcing it though<g>.

In my own circles, which have an admittedly tiny
radius, there is no one yet who has or is serious about
Vista other than one small company who likes progress
for the sake of progress so I don't consider him part
of the circle anymore. Others want to know what
version Win 7 will offer, some don't care as what they
have works, and the rest just see no reason to upgrade.
I'm in the latter category.
Pretty soon XP will be as stable as 98 was at the
end, support will actually dwindle, and software just
won't run on it anymore, where history will again
repeat itself. THAT IMO is where/when VB6 and many
others will finally become replaceable due to
collateral damage.
But, Vista will spread, as long as MS wants it to,
and it will have to be dealt with. But I'd say Win7 is
going to be the release that will be much more
indicative of the future than Vista since it's already
off to a good start and "properly named".

Hi all. I thought that when vb.net arrived that vb6
was over with. I
do most of my development work in MS Access. I
purchased vb.net 2003
and did not like having it.

My questions are:
Is it viable to develop new projects in vb6 going
forward?
Is Microsoft helping in any way?
Do apps written in vb6 work ok with WinXP or Vista?

Thanks,
