Not IMO, this XP box has 22 running processes directly after boot
time. Still a bit too much for my taste, but what can you do.
Try installing Norton's Antivirus products, or worse yet, McAfee's.
Norton adds about 8 services (and by extension, a similarly large
number of running processes), I think, in a default install; McAfee
was around 11 or 12.>

That's just crazy....I haven't used either of those companies product in
years just for that reason.
You have forgotten what's worse than installing those particular
products...
Uninstalling them !!!!!
