Re: Stupid Question Time: Combo box items

Well, I *am* a database programmer first and foremost, so my biases are to be expected. But as to the idea that Access has to be
installed to run Access apps, well, the VB6 run-times have to be installed to run VB6 apps! ('Course, the VB6 run-times are free,
so that makes a bit of a difference right there.)

I just wish they'd kept the controls and design environment more similar between VB6 and the various Office apps. If they'd given
me the design environment and greater functionality of most of Access' controls coupled with the greater power of VB6 in some areas
like printing and, of course, the fact that VB6's controls actually have their own hWnd, I'd be a happy camper.

Unfortunately, "the best of both worlds" doesn't seem to be something MS is good at. One team does one thing, the other does a
different thing, and never the twain shall meet (especially when it comes to VB6 and VB.NET, though VB6 and Office runs a close
second, I think).

But even if they'd gone for the least common denominator, at least I'd know what to expect. Ah well...a little late to be
complaining about it all now, I suppose!

That was exactly my point! VB6 might not natively do some very specific things that you have said are very easy to do in Access,
and in some cases you need to go a bit lower to get the job done, but then VB6 does not require you to have Access installed! So
your own beloved Access is not so great after all, for many tasks ;-)
