Hi John,
If you are really serious about writing your own OS, the best place
to start would be in newsgroups dealing with OS technologies. You
need to understand what sort of requirements, resources and skills
you need to build an OS. After that you need to select a proper
programming language for your project.
As others have said, I too suspect that VB.NET 2008 will be your
best choice, but then again, that is what research is for<g>.
MS only makes the Express version available for download. If
you want the professional version (or VB2005 I would imagine, since
VB2008 is not out yet) you'll have to go to store (virtual or otherwise),
upload some cash and then "download" the product from one of their
shelves.
You might also try to debug your PC to determine the reason for its
slowness. Perhaps the hardware is not up to par, something not
configured correctly or (heaven forbid) the PC has been zombified.
Good luck with your endeaver!

I had my head spinning with this one...
I am using Visual Basic 2008 Codename Orcas and want to develop my own
Operating System. My Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer is *SUPER SLOW*, so
that is what inspired me to create an OS.
Anyone know how in VB 2008?
