Re: VB6, IDE, SourceSafe integration

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks for your help. I have been through all of the settings I can find and
I can't find anything that impacts this strangeness.

I prefer to work in the integrated mode. It shows me what I have checked
out, and allows me to quickly check thing in and out. I'm used to it and I
like it. So, the only way I can get there now is to open the project by
using Create From Source Safe. It is time consuming, because my SS database
is on a server in another state, but it is worth it. I just never close the
project in VB unless I have to...

The two files are there.

If I delete the SS files then reopen the VB project, it does not prompt me
whether to add it to SS.

hmmmm... well, if you click....

Tools/SourceSafe/Options

Mine basic options are set to... (the dialog shows more info, but...)

Get Latest = No
Check in when Closing = Yes
Add files to SS = Ask
Remove files from SS = Ask

The advanced button gives another dialog with 5 tabs (in SS2005, can't
recall v6 dialog, click Help for more info)

Mine's set to...

General Tab
Act on projects recursively = Checked
Unchanged files = Undo Checkout
Visual Merge = If Conflicts
Double-Click = Ask

Local Files Tab
Use Read-Only = Checked
Copy keyword expanded = Checked
Compare = Checksum
Replace = Ask
Set date/time = Modification

Integration Tab
Connect Information
SS Database name
SS Database path
Specifier <Default>
Display Dialong for:
History = Checked
Diff = Checked
Choose SS Database
Use Default
International Tab
Same as Windows
Default Code Page
Custom Editors Tab
Essentially blank (nothing setup)

There are even more options if you run SourceSafe as a standalone app... and
even more if you run the SS Administration tool, so, somewhere, something's
not setup correctly. IIRC, everything is set to "As Installed" on my PC.

Do you have multiple SS databases, by any chance? That shouldn't cause the
problems you're seeing, but may explain some of them, if SS is getting
"confused" on startup.

For what it's worth, quite a few people turn SS integration off in VB's IDE
and use it Standalone only.... seems like a pain to me, but, different
people, different strokes.
