That's not too hard to hear. Listen to a really poor quality mp3 and
you'll hear a swooshing sound. Then listen carefully to a 128k mp3 and you
can just make it out. With headphones it should be easier.

Poor quality (32kbps), I can hear...the difference between 128kbps and
300kbps, I usually can't, and I've never heard a difference between 192kbps
and higher. Depends on the encoding, though...mp3's, I can tell 64kpbs from
128kbps; WMA's, I usually can't...depends on the song.

Like I said, I have bad hearing. :)
