It's probably not a good example because vinyl is meant to sound better
than CD. Valves are meant to sound better too. :-)

Uhhh...valves?

Tube amps.

BTW, while I don't really give a rat's asinine posterior about the
Vinyl/CD argument, I remember coming across a "finding" somewhere that
ultimately, Vinyl did produce a better sound, but that it nevertheless had
the potential drawback of having pops and crackles marring it, where a
CD/DVD obviously wouldn't, unless it was re-recorded from a Vinyl or
similar source.

I've read something like that too.

With my hearing, though, which is slightly impaired, I can't usually tell
the difference between a digital source and vinyl, unless the quality is
pretty bad.

I couldn't notice much either although you probably need the best of the
best equipment to tell the difference.

For that matter, I rarely hear a difference between 128kbps and higher
quality sources. Ah well...lets me save on disk space. :-)

That's not too hard to hear. Listen to a really poor quality mp3 and you'll
hear a swooshing sound. Then listen carefully to a 128k mp3 and you can just
make it out. With headphones it should be easier.
