You and I have very different definitions of the term "very similar" then.

Are metallica and iron maiden "very similar"? It depends how you look at it.
There is an upgrade path, it's just not that good. However, upgrading is
not impossible and I have achieved it quite easily on some smaller
projects.
You could almost say that about any language.
The language would need to be a high level windows programming language with
a basic syntax from MS. No one seems to dispute that a new corvette is a
corvette when it is all new.
