Anyone else started getting these with embedded mainifests.
With an application I have compiled and ran at least 200 times, I started
getting a windows warning:
The application has failed to start because the application configuration
is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
I've seen that message before. Just don't remember the details. It
sounds so familiar.
A SidebySide error number 58 shows in system event logs
Syntax error in manifest or policy file "E:\Microsoft Visual
Studio\VB98\projectname\filename.exe" on line 21.

Thanks for posting back. That information is great to keep in
the front of the mind when messing with manifests. <g> Where'd
you get the answer from?
