If by "environment", you're referring to the fact that it's a managed
language, then we agree. I thought you were saying that machines (the
"environment") simply had to get faster to compensate for VB.NET's slowness.

Yes, but the latter has nothing to do with the former. It's not the
language, it's the environment
under which the language operates which dictates performance.

Perhaps it's picking nits but that was the only point I was making.
