Re: How to suspend Windows?

Mike, I think what he wants to do is modalize (and possibly make it appear
"greyed out" like a disabled button) the desktop in the same fashion when
one tries to turn off the computer and is prompted with "Shut down, Restart,
etc". I don't think that can be done with the Power Management API
(although I've never tried either, so I don't know as well) or any other API
for that matter.

From what I can tell, he wants to programatically lock out the desktop until
some action is taken by the user (*assuming* that is the intent, which is
another red flag altogether).

Jack, word of advise...don't troll...you'll alienate yourself from some
really intelligent and imaginitive people here. There are some ways to
manipulate the desktop to do what you want to do, even repaint it to make it
look disabled, but I have to be honest...I'm not comfortable explaining how
to do this considering the situation as it stands. Perhaps you could
explain in some detail what exactly you are trying to accomplish, besdies
the obvious being that you want to lock out the desktop until some user
action is taken. I am in no way accusing you of anything devious, but on
the same token I don't want to be inadvertanly responsible for helping
someone (or anyone googling for the information) write something that could
be used to harm someone else's computer.

Thanks.

| Right. So you didn't download the API Guide using the link that Steve
| provided? Odd that, because you were replying to Steve's message in which
he
| provided that link. Must be the Easter rabbit, as you say, because if you
| had downloaded it (as Steve suggested) and if you had installed it and
then
| checked out the Power Management section (as Steve also suggested) you
would
| have discovered some APIs that deal with such stuff. I haven't actually
got
| anything for you myself (other than to suggest that you might like to
| actually read the stuff Steve asked you to download) because I have never
| delved into power management myself, but I find it odd that you should say
| that you have (apparently) completely ignored Steve's post, even though
you
| are responding to it. Weird. Must be the Easter bunny, as you have
| suggested. Curiouser and curiouser.
