But my point all along has been that
you don't know for a FACT that it's Windows' fault and shouldn't just be
blindly blaming this problem on Windows. The problem might very well not
be
your code at all. But that's the first thing you (and I mean "you" in a
general sense of "anybody") should look at and consider.

That, I agree with.

Thanks.

why I don't believe the problem you're having could simply be due to XP
Home
is that, to my recollection, a similar problem has NEVER been brought up
in
these newsgroups before....and I find it VERY hard to believe it wouldn't
have if this problem existed in XP Home.

How many machines are there that have XP Home, Office XP, and a developer
sitting at them? That's gotta be a pretty rare combination. Office XP
was one of the *least* uptaken offerings ever from Microsoft. I think
only "enterprise" operations, which hadn't upgraded since Office97 even
looked at it. And how many of them are running XP Home?

Admittedly, probably not many.

We're talking about 5 years since XP's release and nothing ever mentioned
about this particular problem? Not likely.

And on how many systems without a developer sitting at them, would notice
ever be taken of a 2-second delay in the tray? I can't imagine that
*ever* occurring.

Now that I'm not sure I can agree with. Sure, if the program that adds the
systray icon runs at startup, you probably wouldn't notice such a delay
because there's other things going on (virus checker getting its updates,
whatever other programs running at startup as well, etc.) and you'd just put
it off due to that. Run the app after all those things are taken care of
(and Windows is basically idle) and there's a 2 second delay to add the tray
icon, I think it'd be noticed. But that's probably rare because most apps
that add a tray icon run at startup.

Did you have OfficeXP installed on that? "Jack" clearly showed that this
was the vector for that CTFMON thing. I'll take back all my "WTF?"'s, if
so.

No version of Office installed yet...but I'll install Office XP and test.
Not sure when....probably not until the weekend, but I'll let you know the
results.
