Again totally understood and agreed with. And as you imply Trust is
everything. But surely someone can say exactly *what* .Net won't do rather
than why they wouldn't give it the time of day.
Assume for the moment that you had not spent years developing with a
particular language. And assume that M$oft was honourable <g> and would
support both indefinitely.
Which you then go for, and why?

In one or two sentences, can regulars explain concisely to this novice
why
vb.Net is inferior to vb6, rather than tackle the wider issues such as
ongoing support possibly being removed *again*, what they think of M$oft

Yeah, what Ken said. See my sig.
If the Trust issue isn't enough reason for you, there are lots of
technical issues that can and have been debated ad infinitum. At the
point where you're willing to consider your own work disposable, those
could become interesting, I suppose.
After about 650 hours getting to know
vb6, I am a very firm enthusiast! But I want to know whether my time
would
be better spent learning .Net.
Depends how much you value your time. The general lesson of the last
debacle is to never invest your own data (assets) in tools (vehicles) that
Microsoft doesn't invest their assets in.
I'm sure I know the opinions of most here,
but I would like concrete reasons that just focus on usability and not
previous wasted development years etc.
I'm not sure this is the best place for that, but you might catch a fish
or two.
