I have a VB 6.0 application which has used Access 97 / DAO database
files for years.
I am converting the application to support Access 2003 mdb files (with
DAO 3.6) now and am trying to figure out what additional components I
need to distribute to my customers.
My internet research seems to indicate that provided I only install my
application to Windows 2000 and later operating systems, I do not need
to load any additional components to support Access 2003 database
access. It seems that DAO 3.6 and Jet 4.0 (or later) come with Windows
2000, XP and later systems.
Am I understanding this correctly? Should I include the DAO 3.6 and
Jet runtimes with my application anyway or am I looking for trouble?
Any help from you folks is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
George
You shouldn't assume anything. Also starting with WinXP the Jet Service
Packs started to be OS specific. I would supply a link to the MSDN website
and have the client perform the upgrade at the very least. It would be
ill-advised to attempt to install isolated components on your own.
With Vista "DAO" is already present, but you are likely to run into other
issues with installing and running your application. Treat it as a separate
animal, ie, remove the "... and later systems" from your thinking. <g>

Thanks..
It sounds like I should include the runtimes for VB6, DAO 3.5 , 3.6 ,
Jet and perhaps MDAC... to be on the safe side.
