fwiw I had a similar issue and it was because permissions had become
corrupt for the Current User hive in the registry. Meaning the
Current User trying to log on wasn't listed as having access to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER iirc, I launched Regedit from Task Manager and then
reset the permissions for Current User by adding the user to the

much since it eventually does run fine. Probably time to just re-install.
