Delphi is much more VB like than either camp wants to claim <lol>. Once you
get used to begin/end, semicolons and such it's very close from the language
standpoint.
I had a brief adventure with C about 14 or so years ago, so I just think of
begin/end pairs as "curlies".. and a LineEnd has to have a "semi colon".. other
than that, so vb like, that code I ported to Delphi, I would just paste into
the Delphi IDE and just hand tool the bitty changes from there.
I'd love to see a Basic in the Delphi IDE. It ain't gonna happen, I don' t
think, because the languages are so close it's probably not worth spending
development time on.
Agreed. But I think Bob O misses the mark that the VBers wouldn't be welcome
converts, it's surely just the realities of cost/benefit to gain the converts.
I think anyone that takes more than a cursory stab at Delphi will find its'
power/ease ratio to be very attractive. It is true (IMHO), the VB IDE is very
friendly to the newbie, but if you are past that stage with VB, I predict you
wouldn't have much of a hurdle to get productive with a language that looks
like it has pretty good legs remaining...
