Out of curiosity about the latest thing, I purchased a book last night at
Borders...

Beginning Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition - Peter Wright

It includes VB 2005 Express Edition, which apparently MS is giving away (I
haven't been keeping up). Man is it different!

I've been working on the same two programs since VB3.0. In fact, I learned
VB (my only programming language) from "Visual Basic 3.0 for Dummies" and
today I use VB6.0 Professional. I have a bookshelf full of VB books and
references. I've spent YEARS developing and perfecting my two programs (for
AutoCAD LT) and I'm very satisfied with the way they work and how
comfortable I've become with VB.

I use helpful programs like Project Analyzer from Aivosto, as well as
AxTools Source+ 2000 and CodeSMART 2001. I also use Kenn Nesbitt's ShareLock
registration tool.

I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on invaluable websites like these

2005 looks cool (if not cumbersome to me) but I can't just start all over
again (and by the looks of 2005 Express, it appears that's what I'd be
doing)! AutoCAD LT doesn't even support add-on programming (regular AutoCAD
does, but not LT). So I use Sendkeys, Registry edits, along with other
tricks to make my programs work with LT. To figure out these "hacks" in a
new language would take me forever, not to mention all the other stuff I've
had to figure out which is just about EVERYTHING!
After finally getting VB6.0 Pro up and running in XP SP2 (installed VB onto
an original XP, than applied SP2), I guess I could stay with XP SP2 for the
next 10 years. But one day AutoCAD LT will probably require Vista or
whatever and then I'm screwed, I guess.

Well, VB6.0 works in XP SP2 for mw now so I'm at least happy about that.
I've browsed this board and it looks like VB6.0 applications will at least
run in Vista. <wipes sweat off forehead>. I sure hope the VB Classic
websites like those I mentioned above stay up. I wonder, will there ever be
a way to update VB Classic programs to make them look more modern (to match
Windows)? I'd give MS a chunck of change for a VB7.0 with Vista support and
any new interface enhancements.

You can probably tell I'm not the programmer type, just happily hacking
along on my two long-time VB programs.
