Typing a
It looks a lot like Suse Linux to me, (except with
the usual Rube Goldberg decorations that MS likes
to add in, like the virtualization of Registry and
folder paths): In Suse, one has to either put up with
constant permission prompts, which I personally
find entirely unworkable, or track down the semi-hidden
settings that allow one to run as actual root.
OT: Yeah, I wish there was a sudo GUI equivalent so that I wouldn't be
continually prompted every time I change to a different admin applet.
complex crack-resistant password many times quickly loses its appeal (ifit had
any to begin with).
Yes. It allows one to feel very important,
though. We can imagine that we're gov't
agents working on top secret documents. :)
The only approach that makes sense to
me is full root for basic things and limited user
when going online. I'd rather re-install a disk
image occasionally due to a goof than deal
with limitations. Actually, though, I'm still waiting
to go online with Linux until I find an easy,
clear, GUI-based, 2-way firewall. As far as I
know, Linux doesn't even have a firewall
available that blocks outgoing comm.
