I believe it is rather obvious that M$ has no intention for dotNet to
be a tool for developing "Shrink-Wrap" or "Desktop" applications.
That market is stalling out any way - it has become a commodity
market with very low margins. The future is all dedicated embedded
toys and web-based services.
the short-term future, anyway. I've seen the pendulum swing from
centralized systems to distributed and back enough to realize that any
market that's stalling out has only to wait a bit for the tide to turn (and
I'm sure I can mix in a few more metaphors there if I try!). I'm not saying
that VB's day will come again, just that the current everything-is-web-based
craze will be replaced by something else eventually.
