VB3 upgrade? Modem trouble. New machine.

My old VB3 phone dialler (phoner25.zip) can't find winmodems.
My new ABit PCI won't accept a "real" modem.
Have I been left that far behind by modem drivers? I was never able to
find a driver for a winmodem that allows open file as... access in VB3.
I like to be able to dial codes after the robot answers to acess
services, bypass long menus, etc, and I love my desktop speakerphone
phonebook lookup routine (voice activation
capable), rolodex (TM) style! We are not allowed to use rolodex(TM) as
a generic indicator, seemingly. My dialler also does (did?) scripts!
Mind, I haven't bought another new voice modem with driver lately. I
got sick of that run around and gave up years ago. Would it help?
(Nor will my DJ royalties (Royalpay) music playlist with strange
indexing work anymore. Can't open the database anymore. Could it be
that crystal reports is unreplaceable? My 5-1/4" VB disks have a
damaged file!)
Maybe I will need to buy a new ~basic, after all. Damn! I hate buying
operational rights to an old, satisfactory system year after year.
I haven't been keeping up. (Burned out years ago!) Any advice? What is
a good newer VB legacy compliant system?
Help? Thanks!
Terry K
