Yes

If so, is it obscenely difficult to get working?

No

Or, is it a relatively easy process to get all those pieces together?

I've done this exact thing with the professional version of the old
imaging control that came with NT, so I would assume it would be easy if
you could find an equivalent control. Kodak used to have some pretty
good imaging software, but I don't know if they still do.
