Stefan,

there's no effort to even begin to understand - thus the only
conclusion

The problem is not understanding. We're talking about a giant
corporation. Once a decision is taken it is nearly impossible to move
it back. Think of all the work that's gone into VB2005. Who is going
to admit that they made a mistake.

Ballmer's gotta go... Their trajectory into the toilet will not change
until he does.

That is a very good point
- normally when a company goes down a duff route, they jetison the CEO

I'm pretty open minded whether the .NET platform is a good idea, in a
way it is an attempt to port the operating system

- but I certainly think they are missing the trick with FRED.NET

- it is the very 'street-ness' of BASICs that (IMO & IME) made the PC
market - something MS realized long ago when BG publicly announced
that BASIC would remain the core language of Office etc

In regard to the latter. At one time there was some serious infighting when
the Office group wanted to "take-over" Visual Basic. The Development group
'won'.

I remember at the time, when the facts came out, I breathed a sigh of
relief. But knowing what we know now, I wonder if that wouldn't have been
for the best?
