Hi

I tried it, Very bad results with my PC. On my desktop there are only 2 things I can now do. One is Ctrl+Alt+Del and the other is right click on the desk top, and a small popup appears with access to the desktop properties. Everything else is gone. No taskbar, start button, icons, clock. Nothing, just the wallpaper.
I tried uninstalling, only differance is the right click popup does not appear. Tried re installing and configuring the program but nothing changes.
Please tell me what this program has done so that I can undo it.

Not a very good first review, huh Dan?

Ivar, you have my sympathies. I hope you're able to fix things without reinstalling Windows. Personally, I'm quite skeptical about that, but maybe fixing things won't be that bad. But, I think you need to take any issues up with Dan one-on-one via email and NOT in this newsgroup. I can just see this turning into a "tech support" thread for Dan's program.

To others, PLEASE take warning! Dan's program is trying to REPLACE Explorer as Windows' shell. He's written it with VB6. IMO, there's just NO WAY you're going to be able to replace Explorer as the shell with a VB app (you can enhance the shell with a VB program, but not replace it). I'm not trying to dis Dan or put his program down in any way. I just don't want to see a lot of people like Ivar try this program and all that happens is their system gets hosed (and honestly, I think that's what's going to happen). If you're going to try Dan's program, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM. I cannot stress that enough. If you're using Windows XP or later, create a restore point (and still backup your entire system). If you want to help Dan out with beta testing, the ABSOLUTE BEST THING you can do is install his app on a test system. Another option , if you can, would be to install it on a virtual machine (such as with Virtual PC 2004). Under NO circumstances should you EVER install a beta program (a beta of any program; I'm not singling Dan's program out here) on a "production" PC.

Dan, IMO, this was a foolish thing for you to do. You even stated "I'll really be somewhat surprised if this installs/runs properly for many people". I guess you consider that a disclaimer. Granted, anybody that installs your program should know they're taking their chances, but if you expect "many people" will have problems, you have NO business making a post for people to download it, not to mention that I don't think that is even appropriate on these newsgroups. IMO, you're trying to use the newsgroups to get beta testers (and, to an extent, market your program). That's not what these newsgroups are for. Most of us probably have more sense than to try your program on anything other than a "test machine". But what about the people like Ivar? Hopefully, he did have the sense to install it on a test PC, but it doesn't sound like it to me. With betas, sure, you expect there to be problems. But you don't expect them to hose your PC and it seems that's what happened to Ivar.
