the first time I came across double buffering, "Micro-Soft"
had not yet been founded, much less Borland.

I don't think Jerry meant to suggest that the technique of double buffering
started with Delphi. I think he was just saying that he had used it himself
in Delphi, and that he was making that statement in order to counter Michael
C's statement about VB6's Autoredraw system when Michael said that it is
natively available in dotnet and it is *now* called double buffering. He
probably thought that Michael C was suggesting that Microsoft's dotnet had
actually invented the phrase "double buffering" (although I'm sure Michael
wasn't actually suggesting that). It's just that some people would have read
it that way. In fact the technique of double buffering has been around for a
long time and I've used both software and hardware double buffering myself
for about twenty years.

Pretty much - but I don't mind a well informed 'slapping'.

In the old days we would set up a 'page' of RAM, print to it and shove
a 'window' on the screen. We used to call them 'Virtual Pages'.
