Fact of the matter is that you should NOT have to worry about these

"These things"??? Files from another operating system are "these things"?
LOL! You sound like a guy caught with his pants pulled down.

The fact that you do is
sufficient indication that VB 6 is not fully featured when it comes
to File IO.

On the contrary. You just choose to use a *very* limited command. No
doubt, one which has its place, that being "Windows/DOS text file i/o",
which even you must recognize is a far bit more restricted than just general
everyday generic "file i/o"?

You don't seem to have a problem writing around the language.

I don't write around the language, I write *with* it. I've offered you very
simple alternatives, native nonetheless, that would be orders of magnitude
faster. You snivel that "other languages" wouldn't apparently require you
to think. I find that pretty damned funny, Mr. MIT!

Assuming your comments that it would be realitively easy
to write a class to fix these issues is correct leads me to believe
that MS hasn't cared about VB for a lot longer than dotNet.

You present a special-needs case, and expect a general-purpose language to
cater to your need. That's even funnier.

Personally, I have other things to do besides write work arounds to
holes in a language - so I simply switch to a language tool or, even,
egads, a different language as needed. If you're stuck with VB 6 as
your only language, I feel sorry for you.

Thread Ended.
