Try posting in a case people can read. No one will read the section that is
all in upper case and therefore most people who frequent these newsgroup
will not answer your question...

I have also posted this in the "Programming Jobs" section but I think
this is a much more suitable place. Please read:
Firstly, I'd just like to say that I'm very uneducated with
programming. Well, I have large experience with PHP and other
web-design-related programming but no other experience. Please take the
time to read my topic as I am not entirely good at condensing what I
write:-
Very Brief explanation: I need a script or basic program which
automatically changes ID3 tags of a list/folder of music files.
MY PROBLEM
MY MUSIC COLLECTION IS NOW BORDERING ON 4,000 SONGS. FROM DAY ONE OF
GETTING SONGS ONTO MY COMPUTER, I HAVE ALWAYS MADE SURE THAT THE
FILENAME IS PERFECTLY ORGANISED (FOR EXAMPLE, THE FILENAME TO ONE SONG
IS \"DIDO - THANK YOU.MP3\"). I ORGANISE MY MUSIC SO THAT THE ARTIST IS
FIRST, FOLLOWED BY A DASH AND THEN THE SONG TITLE AND ANY EXTRA
INFORMATION IN BRACKETS SUCH AS WHICH OTHER ARTISTS FEATURE IN THE
SONG.
NOW, I RECENTLY LOOKED AT MY MUSIC IN A LIBRARY AND THE ID3 TAGS OF MY
SONGS ARE HORRIBLE!! SIMPLY HORRIBLE! I AM ONLY BOTHERED ABOUT ALTERING
THE 'ARTIST' AND 'SONG TITLE' OF THESE (I AM NOT TOO BOTHERED ABOUT
'ALBUM', 'YEAR MADE' ETC.) BUT EVEN SO - MOST OF THEM ARE REALLY BADLY
NAMED - MOST OF THEM WRONG.
I HAVE CALCULATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE MONTHS OF PAINFUL EFFORT TO CHANGE
THE ID3-TAG OF EACH MUSIC FILE TO ITS CORRECT INFORMATION, BUT I KNOW
THAT THERE IS PROBABLY A MUCH MUCH LESS TIME CONSUMING METHOD USING A
SCRIPT.
MY SUGGESTED SOLUTION
For there to be a script/program which sorts through a given list or
folder of music files. For each music file, it renames their ID3 tag
corresponding with the filename, following a pattern.
For example, for the file "Dido - Thank You.mp3", it would examine the
ID3-tag of this and check/ammend the Author so that it corresponds
exactly with the first part of the filename. In this case, it is
'Dido'. It then looks at the Song Title and changes this to the second
part of the filename after the seperation dash. In this case, the Song
Title is 'Thank You'.
The script runs for each music file, until all are correctly named.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I have been told by people that it is "really simple" but they did not
wish to help me because they only do programming to benefit
themselves.
I ask of anyone if they are able to do this, and if so - could they?
Please reply here with thoughts or comments.
I wouldn't like to mention the issue of a cost involved as I am only 14
years of age, but I am willing to pay if the efforts requires to make a
script like this are high.
Thankyou for reading,
Greg Hilton
