No connection to any POS system actually exists, but as a technology,
RFID
does allow for this. When the tag is hit with a radio wave (emitted by
the
pylons) it transmits an id. For now this id is only used internally by
the pylons.
Normally, if the id is returned (any id) the pylon sounds off the alarm.
In the future though, the idea is for the tag to transmit other
information and
have the receiving end hooked up to an inventory system (or POS) so that
the item can be "processed" further as needed.
This present a whle new paradign and controversy, but I would
digress<g>.
Again, I have not seen any rfid tags doing this yet.
