The reference to Dilbert had to do with selling the same clients essentially
the same program just because it was a 'new' version.

Your reference to a port from DOS to Windows does not fit your argument. Our
first Windows version (1992) had substantially LESS funcionality than the
DOS version, none the less, our clients were enthusiastic about it because
of the novelty. If we had brought out a rewritten DOS version with the same
funcionality of the new Windows one, no one would have wanted it. It took
several years to get the Windows program on the par of the old DOS one. If
both had been on the same platform, we could have never made that
transition.

A typical end user is incapable of decting the difference between a .NET
program and a VB6 program. Which means that if you want to make the
transition you must offer something significantly better.
