It looks a bit rough in Word as well.
Does this mean that I will have to resort to creating an image in photoshop,
saving it and then importing this into VB as an image?

Most likely it's a limitation of the font itself. Specialized graphics
apps like Photoshop may employ a variety of specialized filters to
enhance or alter the appearance beyond what the native Windows (GDI)
font rendering engine does. How does it look in other apps, like Word
for example?
