SendMail for VB

A year or two ago I was looking at sending email from my VB6 app, and
someone told me they had a SendMail program which I could use freely.
However, I didn't have Winsock so this wouldn't work and I ended up
using BLAT which is brilliant for SMTP mail

However, I now have VB6 enterprise and can avail myself of the Winsock
control - only thing is - can't find the original SendMail!!!

I have one app that uses MAPI successfully to send email - but this
causes a problem with users who have MS Exchange. Every time they
click the mail ***, it asks them to set up a new email account.

How can I have ONE routine in my app which will send email via the
correct method for the environment - i.e. by the user's default email
account?
