Updating Application

Hi,

I have an internal application that gets routinely updated and it is
becoming a headache to maintain. I was looking at designing it to verify
when opened to see if it is the latest version and if not download the new
version from the server and install it. I know there are third party tools
howver I am looking at designing my own. Any examples or shared thoughts
would be nice.
