Looks like the average resume we receive when we post a job. Our solution,
put a laptop in front of the interviewee and have them demonstrate setting
up a project and creating a small app using each of their stated
competencies. We've found that most people overstate their abilities since
programming is so complex that it almost requires a specialty anymore.
I agree with you that a person needs to learn and understand basic
programming techniques before learning specific languages. Most of the
responses in this thread are suggestions on how to learn VB6 instead of how
to learn programming. I first learned C then C++ before moving on the VB3.
The basic concepts I learned in C and the object oriented concepts I learned
in C++ were still beneficial when I learned VB, VB.Net, ASP (which is
basically VB Script), and Java. Today I consider myself a VB6 programmer
but as I am being asked to write more and more .net code I find the
transition quite easy because of my early training.
