Thanks Ken for trying to help.

Ken, the only requirement for the textbox on the "server" is:
2. Place a Textbox (Text1) on Form1 and set the Text Property to "The
DDE Server is Running."
3. Change the LinkMode Property of Form1 to "1 - Source."

This is perfectly compatible with the VB6 textbox.

I have conversed several years ago with Eric and am familiar with DDEML.
That's not the problem. After installing SP2 on XP, something changed with
NetDDE and it affects me greatly. My NetDDE server is a commercial program
that supplies financial data. Without the ability to run this software from
an XP SP2 computer, I'm stuck using Win2000 as an OS for the server.

I don't use the XP firewall, I use ZoneAlarm. I have thought that there was
a possibility that enhancements in the firewall for XP could be a problem.
But, I have found no way to even "ask" Microsoft about my problem. And,
since NetDDE is not often used these days, there are no questions being
asked on the groups. I'm in a rut, Ken. I need to find out if it is
"possible" for NetDDE to be a server on XP SP2. OR... what did Microsoft do
to SP2 that created my problem. If there was any way you (or anyone else)
could take a few minutes and create the server and client from Microsoft and
verify my results I would be so happy. At the most... ten minutes.

I just want to know if NetDDE (as a server) is dead on XP SP2. I find
nothing in the Microsoft KB and don't have a way to ask them directly.

To have to "disable" NetDDE services, then re-enable them into manual, then
start the services to have a working NetDDE is a workable solution. Not...
one I'm happy with though. I wish someone from Microsoft would see this
message and help and/or explain what SP2 has done to NetDDE.

Once again,

Thanks
