fwiw, I breifly tried to build a project using the info from that article.
VB6 textboxes don't have the same DDE settings as VB4/5 textboxes do (which
is the versions the articles specify) so I bailed out.
I'm not sure but maybe this sample will help....

Also,... have you tried "playing around" with Firewall settings? I know
Rockwell has people run their "firewall utility" on PCs running SP2 because
they use ancient technology for communications. (don't buy rockwell
software.... ever)
