Delphi. It suits our needs best. Others may be going elsewhere, dunno.
When we started looking for a platform that best matched what we were
getting from VB, it sort of came to the top of the heap. Delphi is rich in
3rd party support, coming to the table with huge choices in components and
libs. It's easy to develop in, nearly as easy as VB.

Their product far exceeds their marketing. No kidding. I've found "stuff"
in there that makes a lot of sense, but I had to get into it to find it!
Sure seems backwards from what I'm used to from MS. They have a new
marketing guy, so maybe they'll get something going on that.
While Delphi is a great tool on its own, one of the things I've been trying
to get them to do is create an "on ramp" to leverage VB developers'
knowledge (help "cross references", etc). There are patchwork efforts on
that by the user community, but it sure would help if Borland took that on
(something like MS did for WP users moving to Word<g>).

Compete with VB? In what regard? Delphi isn't VB, but it's a great
development tool. I don't see Delphi trying to go head to head with VB on
scripting or one-off applications. At least not with their current
direction (and I don't really want them to).
I have a real app and VB simply isn't an option for me any more. MS does
not consider VB a real development tool, they don't respect the language,
and they don't respect the users' code assets. Years ago MS referred to VB
as "glue" to stick real code together with. We thought we'd got over that,
but apparently that view has not died within MS.
IMHO, there is no competition from VB or I wouldn't be making such an effort
to move. I *prefer* Basic, but I can't trust my code assets to MS. I have
a fairly large code base so it's not an insignificant effort. I'll convert
it to Delphi and use it for quite some time in Win32 as well as dotNet, as
opposed to converting it to VB.Net and using it only in dotNet until MS
decides to change VB again (again). I've worked publicly and privately on
MS for 4 or 5 years now with a spectacular lack of success. At this point I
don't know what it would take to change my mind.
Again, I prefer VB. VB is dead.
