If this is possible, some pointers on what to search for or some sample code
would be appreciated.

My project is a logbook of sorts. In the main text authoring area, I would
like to allow the users to embed small icons or bitmaps in the middle of the
text. Each icon would be linked to a record in another section of the
database. For instance, the user could be writing a description of a broken
piece of equipment, and embed an icon that, when clicked, would open the
program's photo display form and load a photo showing the break so the tech
can see it. Other icons would open files or other log entries.

What little I've found so far indicates that the embedded object would
simply be opened in the default app for that file type, such as a bitmap
opening in Paint.

Is it possible to attach instructions to the icon somehow then read and
direct the result of a click?

Thanks.
Paul
